According to Khenpo Karthar Rinpoche, it was the wish of the 16h Karmapa that dharma students in the United States receive this practice, which is said to be the union of the Three Roots – the lama, the yidam, and the protector – all in one practice. The 16th Karmapa is said to have explained that in busy modern times, it may not be possible for some dharma students to complete Three-Year, Three-Month, Three-Day Retreat. But the essence of the Three-Year-Retreat, the unity of the practice of the lama, yidam and protector, is said to be contained in the Karma Pakshi Guru Sadhana.During this year’s annual retreat, dharma students received the empowerment from Khenpo Karthar Rinpoche and the following day joined one of two classes: Individual Practice with Lama Kathy Wesley or Group Ritual Practice with Lama Lodro Lhamo. After two days of instruction, students participated in a three-day Karma Pakshi Retreat, chanting the sadhana for the benefit of beings in the KTD Main Shrine Room. Those doing their Ngondro now can look forward to joining KTD’s Karma Pakshi Retreat in the future. Karmapa Khyenno!
